Urban Sports Festival Comes To A Close At Birżebbuġa Pretty Bay

The Urban Sports Festival organised by the Malta Street Sports Alliance, in collaboration with the Ministry for Youth, Wellbeing and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme and the Malta Trust Foundation, among others, has come to an end.

The festival was held over three days at Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa.

This was the fifth consecutive year that the festival was organised, with Maltese athletes joined by participants from Greece, Colombia, Latvia, the United States, Germany and France.

The competitions held during the three-day festival were aimed at athletes involved in BMX, skateboarding, scooter, roller skating, parkour, breaking, panna football and 3x3 basketball, all of which fall under the Urban Sports category.

The main aim of the festival is to create opportunities for Maltese athletes who already take part in these sports, while also encouraging more young athletes to get involved.

During the festival, Maltese families were able to enjoy the sporting displays provided by the athletes, alongside activities organised for children, including bouncy castles, entertainers, face painting, music and opportunities for Maltese athletes to participate in training sessions in these sports.

Minister for Youth, Wellbeing and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme Omar Farrugia visited the festival participants and presented awards to the winners at the end of an evening of sporting activities.

During a speech, Minister Farrugia thanked the Malta Trust Foundation and the organisers, while congratulating them on the success of this year’s festival.

“At this festival, children, young people and families came together in a spectacle of entertainment and competitive games. These are the activities we want to see for the whole family, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen these initiatives year after year,” the Minister said.
