Up To 55% Of 16 To 29 Year Old Maltese Faced Degrading Messages Online

According to Eurostat, 55.9% of Maltese youth aged between 16 and 29 years encountered hostile or degrading messages online in 2025.
Women were more likely to face such messages at 55.3%, whereas 51.75 of men reported facing such messages.
The Maltese average was higher than the EU average, with registered a rate of 54.2%. Ireland was the country where such messages were encountered the most at 78% of the age group.
Finland and France followed at 76.6% and 64.6%. Greece had the lowest rate at 33.2%, followed by Bulgaria and Latvia at 35.8% and 36.1% respectively.
