Up To 1 Year Jail Sentence Proposed For Failure To Report Abuse Of Persons With Disabilities & Pensioners

Speaking in parliament, Minister for Inclusion and Voluntary Work Julia Farrugia announced the proposal of harsher penalties for persons who fail to report abuse of persons with disabilities or elderly persons.
Minister Farrugia proposed that the penalties increase to between four months to 1 year prison sentence and/or a €5,000 fine.
She said that this would apply to anyone who does not report of abuse, gives false reports or hides information about such abuse.
‘This is a serious offence, and the message needs to be clear’, said Minister Farrugia.
