The University of Malta (UM) has secured a place in the top 300 of the latest QS Europe Rankings, continuing its upward trajectory in one of the continent’s most comprehensive higher education assessments.

Compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds, the Europe rankings evaluate 958 universities across 42 countries and territories that are members of the Council of Europe. This year’s edition included 291 new entrants.

In the inaugural 2024 rankings, UM placed 344th. It climbed to 306th in the 2025 edition and has now risen to 291st place, achieving an overall score of 40.1 and surpassing 69.7% of ranked institutions.

The overall result reflects performance across key pillars: Research & Discovery (45%), Learning Experience (5%), Global Engagement (25%), Sustainability (5%), and Employability and Outcomes (20%).

Among the standout improvements was Inbound Exchange Students, where UM’s score surged from 25.1 to 97.5, propelling it from 238th to 42nd place globally. Employment Outcomes also strengthened, rising from 99.3 to 99.9 and entering the global top 10 in 7th place.

Further gains were recorded in Faculty–Student Ratio and International Student Diversity, signalling continued investment in teaching capacity and internationalisation.

The achievement aligns with the University’s Strategy 2026–2030, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive leadership, sustainability and meaningful impact for students, staff and the wider community.
