At around 09:55 local time, an ultra light aircraft with the registration 9H VLT was involved in an incident on the airfield at Malta International Airport while carrying two people.

The airport confirmed that first responders arrived immediately and no injuries were reported.

The situation is being handled in coordination with the relevant authorities and an investigation has begun into the cause of the incident.

Runway 23/05 has been temporarily closed, although the main runway 31/13 remains fully operational, allowing flight movements to continue with minimal disruption.

Malta International Airport thanked its team and stakeholders for their swift and coordinated response.

Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri reported that no injuries were reported and everything was brought under control after an aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Malta International Airport.

Minister Camilleri thanked the security and safety efforts by officials which ensured the well-being of those on board and that the situation was brought under control.
