Two Serbian nationals have been deported from Malta after serving separate prison sentences for a series of serious crimes, including drug trafficking, theft and armed robbery.

The first man completed a two-and-a-half-year prison term after being convicted of drug trafficking, possession of forged documents and several thefts from a grocery store in Mellieħa.

After finishing his sentence at the end of 2024, he remained in detention while authorities considered an asylum application, which was later rejected. He also unsuccessfully challenged a return and removal order issued by the Principal Immigration Officer in court.

The second man was detained after serving a five-year prison sentence for armed robbery at a grocery store in Mosta and multiple thefts in St Paul’s Bay, Naxxar and other localities. He was also convicted of holding a person against their will during one of the robberies.

Both men were held in detention until their forced return and are now banned from entering Malta and the Schengen area.
