Two Men Arrested For Drug Trafficking: Found Driving With Loaded Firearm

A surveillance operation related to drug trafficking led to the arrest of two menin Raħal Ġdid. The two men, one a 56 year old resident of Ħal Għaxaq and another a 46 year old resident of Rabat, Gozo, were found in possession of various substances and firearms.

The two men were stopped early on yesterday in Raħal Ġdid, when they were driving a Ford Ranger.

A search yielded around 5 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cannabis, as well as a firearm with ammunition.

From there, the police continued their search in a Ħamrun residence, where they found around 4 kilograms of suspected cannabis, 3 kilograms of suspected cocaine, some cash as well as an industrial press machine used to package the drugs.

Another search in a Ħal Għaxaq residence yielded a substance suspected to be heroin and another firearm. An inquiry has been opened and investigations are ongoing, with the men being held in Floriana’s lock up.

Commenting on the case, Minister for Home Affairs Glenn Bedingfield said that, during the past weekend, another 8 persons were arrested and 28 kilograms of drugs confiscated.

‘Thank you to the police force. This is a fight that we need to continue as a country agains those ruining our youth.’
