Two Maltese and two Italians were arrested on Tuesday afternoon in connection to drug trafficking, importing over 12 kilos of drugs suspected to be cocaine into Malta from Sicily.

The drug had an estimated value of €600,000.

According to information acquired by the police, it was revealed that the two Italians, a 49 year old man and a 42 year old woman were going to arrive in Malta with a vehicle on the catamaran from Sicily.

The police followed them after they arrived as they drove to Gudja, where they met with two Maltese men, both aged 26 years old.

The police intercepted the vehicle and arrested the four individuals. A search on the vehicle confirmed the information the police was in possession of, with the drugs hidden away in a compartment.

An inquiry has been opened and the four persons are being held under arrest in Floriana. They are expected to be taken to court today at around 1330hrs.
