A police spokesperson outside St Claire’s Secondary School confirmed that at around 7:45am, officers were alerted to a stabbing that had just occurred on the school premises.

According to the spokesperson, the incident involved two 14-year-old male students who became embroiled in an argument that escalated into a stabbing inside the school. The victim is in a stable condition and is receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital. The alleged perpetrator was immediately stopped by school staff and is now speaking to police in the presence of his parents, given that he is a minor.

When questioned by journalists, the spokesperson stated that the weapon used was a knife. He also noted that the two students are not Maltese, but Libyan nationals who have been living in Malta since childhood.

The police further confirmed that a magisterial inquiry has been launched, to be led by Magistrate Dr Phillip Galea Farrugia, alongside ongoing police investigations.
