Turtle Found Dead In St Julians Following Boat Injury
Local

Yesterday, Nature Trust Malta received a call reporting a dead turtle found in St Julians with severe damage to its shell.

Two volunteers were dispatched and quickly realised that the turtle was microchipped, meaning she was previously rescued.

It was revealed that the turtle is Nathalia, who previously sustained a boat injury that left her with an amputated flipper.

Nathalia was initially rescued in April 2025, where she soon adapted to swimming with one less flipper and was released back into the wild that December.

Nature Trust suspect that Nathalia’s recent fatal injury was also caused by a boat.

“We're so saddened by this. After months of rehabilitation and adaptation, being released back is the ultimate goal.....only to have humans cause another injury, this time fatal,” shared the rescue.
