Turkish Worker Dies After Being Crushed By Construction Material In Ħal Far

A 51-year-old Turkish worker has died after being struck by falling material at a construction site in Ħal Far Industrial Estate on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the site at around 1.15pm after the worker sustained fatal injuries when material being lifted by a tower crane fell on him.
Medical personnel and members of the Civil Protection Department were immediately summoned to assist at the scene. However, despite their intervention, the Mqabba resident was certified dead at the site a short time later.
Duty Magistrate Dr Joe Mifsud LL.D. was informed of the incident and has opened a magisterial inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Police investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
The two bodies are also investigating another construction incident in Ħal Għaxaq where 2 houses adjacent to a building site have been damaged, but fortunately, there have been no reported injuries.
