Former President Donald Trump, who skipped Sunday’s Super Bowl in favor of a watch party in Florida, sharply criticised Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, calling it “a slap in the face” and claiming “nobody understands a word” the Puerto Rican artist was singing.

“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He also condemned the choreography, calling it “disgusting,” particularly for children.

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, delivered a high-energy performance featuring many of his hits, theatrical visuals, and appearances from stars including Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. The Puerto Rican rapper also used the platform to deliver a unifying message, invoking the flags and nations of the Americas. Displaying a football with the message “Together we are America,” he stood alongside the US and Puerto Rico flags, emphasizing inclusivity.

Trump had previously described Bad Bunny as a “terrible choice” for the halftime show. The performance followed the artist’s historic Grammy win for Debí Tirar Más Fotos (I Should Have Taken More Photos), the first Spanish-language album to earn Album of the Year, where he also issued a pointed political statement criticizing ICE policies.

While Trump and conservative groups opposed the show, fans across the US and Puerto Rico praised the performance for its artistry, energy, and star-studded appearances.
