Tributes have poured in for Karl Gouder, one year to the day of his unexpected passing, which left not only the Nationalist Party but Malta’s entire political scene in shock.

Newly elected Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg remembered Gouder as both a colleague and a friend, noting that his smile and presence will never be forgotten.

The President of the PN General Council, Mark Anthony Sammut, shared that less than 16 hours before the news of Gouder’s death broke, he had spoken to him on the phone about his plans and aspirations. Sammut admitted he will never fully understand what happened in those final hours.

Fellow MP Darren Carabott also took to Facebook to reflect on the loss, writing:

“There are many people we wish we still had the chance to say or hear that ‘Good morning!’ from, but we can’t – because they are no longer with us. This morning I remembered Karl Gouder’s ‘Good morning, Capo!’”

Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione described Gouder as “always so clearly present in our minds and hearts, dearest Karl, as we mark the first year since you left us.”

Meanwhile, former PN leader and recent leadership candidate Adrian Delia posted a heartfelt message, simply stating that Gouder will never be forgotten.

Deputy Floriana Mayor James Aaron Ellul also posted a heartfelt message writing and describing his last few moments with Karl before “Karl, I greet you and thank you. I was lucky to work closely with you and get to know you. Rest in peace, my friend.”
