Transport Malta has launched its ‘Plan Ahead. Arrive Safe’ campaign to ensure safer and more efficient journeys as students return to school and traffic levels rise.

Transport Minister Chris Bonett and Transport Malta CEO Kurt Farrugia confirmed that, from Monday, 80 officials will be deployed across 33 locations to manage the increased traffic during the back-to-school period.

Farrugia added that no infrastructural work permits will be issued within 500 metres of schools during peak hours, except in urgent cases, to minimise disruptions.

The free tow truck service, introduced in 2022, will continue to operate after proving effective in reducing delays by quickly removing vehicles involved in accidents.

Bonett also announced the opening of a new Park & Ride facility in Ta’ Qali on 28th September, initially offering 120 spaces with plans for expansion. The facility will serve commuters travelling to Mosta, Naxxar, Mater Dei, and the University.

Concluding, Bonett noted that while data shows overall traffic flow has improved on Maltese roads, congestion remains inevitable in a strong and active economy.
