The Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force) recently carried out a course centred on essential water survival training for flight crews, under the framework of the Bilateral Cooperation Plan (BCP) between Italy and Malta.

The training was attended by 35 personnel from the AFM Air Wing and is specifically designed to prepare flight crews for emergency scenarios in which an aircraft whether rotary or fixed-wing may ditch at sea.

The course equips participants with the skills to use scuba pony tanks effectively, enabling them to breathe underwater and evacuate safely if the cabin is rapidly flooded following a ditching. Training also covers buddy breathing techniques and fundamental crew survival-at-sea procedures, ensuring personnel are prepared for maritime emergencies.
