Traditional Maltese Luzzu Installed In New Żurrieq Garden

Misraħ il-Karmelitani Garden in Żurrieq, an open space of around 1,150 square metres on a site previously covered in tarmac, was inaugurated by the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli together with the Project Green team and Żurrieq Mayor Rita Grima.
As part of the garden, a Maltese luzzu was installed, which belonged to the late Gianni ‘il-Lixxu’ Tonna.
The boat was restored and donated to the Local Council in his memory, with its installation coordinated by the Mayor together with Joseph Farrugia, known as “it-Timba”, who assisted with transport and preparation.
The project has transformed a formerly paved area into an accessible green space within a residential neighbourhood. In total, 40 mature trees and 1,620 shrubs have been planted, improving biodiversity and the local environment.
