TOURIST SPENDING IN MALTA RISES BY €76 MILLION IN 2026 FIRST QUARTER

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs Ian Borg has highlighted a significant increase in tourist spending in Malta during the first three months of the year, describing it as the strongest winter performance for the sector to date.
According to figures shared by the minister, tourists spent €584.7 million in the first quarter of this year, an increase of €76 million compared to the same period last year, representing a rise of around 15%.
This also marks a substantial growth compared to 2013, with tourist spending now €420.9 million higher than a decade ago.
Ian Borg described the results as evidence of a more resilient tourism sector and increased value being generated for workers who depend on the industry. He noted that the performance reflects Malta’s continued appeal as a year-round destination, not just a seasonal one.
The minister said that the strong winter figures demonstrate the sector’s ability to sustain growth outside the traditional peak summer months. He added that this trend supports greater stability for businesses and employees across the tourism industry, which remains one of Malta’s key economic pillars.
