A recent study by the National Statistics Office has revealed that tourist spending in Malta reached an unprecedented €396 million in June 2025.

This marks a significant 19.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024 — a growth rate nearly double the 10.8% rise in visitor numbers.

Between January and June 2025, the largest group of tourists visiting Malta and Gozo were aged between 25 and 44, totalling 661,391 visitors. This was followed by the 45 to 64 age group with 583,255 visitors.

Travellers aged 0 to 24 came third, with 345,850 visitors, while those aged 65 and over made up the smallest group, with 215,234 tourists.

Despite being the smallest demographic, the 65+ age group recorded the highest growth rate, increasing by 25.2% compared to the same period last year. The 45 to 64 group also saw a notable rise of 18.3%. In contrast, the slowest growth was in the 0 to 24 age category, which grew by just 5.8%.

The average length of stay remained steady at just under six nights. However, there was a remarkable 14.4% increase in the number of visitors staying for more than seven nights on the islands.

Minister for Tourism Ian Borg commented on the figures, saying, “In June, tourist numbers increased by 10.8% compared to last year. More importantly, their spending rose by 19.1%! We will continue to work together to build on this success.”
