TOURISM MINISTER JO ETIENNE ABELA REVEALS 67 BREACHES FOUND IN SWIEQI ACCOMMODATION INSPECTIONS

Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela has revealed the results of an intensive enforcement operation carried out by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) targeting tourist accommodation properties in Swieqi.
In a Facebook post, Minister Abela stated that over the past two days, the MTA’s enforcement team conducted a series of inspections focused on rental accommodation operators in the locality, with the aim of ensuring compliance with tourism regulations.
The inspections uncovered 67 breaches related to licensing requirements or operations, while six properties were found to be operating without a valid licence. As part of the enforcement action, six properties are set to be blacklisted, and 14 enforcement notices were issued.
Minister Abela said that the results highlight the Government’s determination to continue strengthening governance within the tourism sector and ensure that all operators abide by the same rules.
He stressed that the quality and reputation of Malta’s tourism industry depend on effective enforcement of regulations, warning that those who choose to operate outside the law will face immediate and decisive action.
The operation follows growing concerns regarding standards and compliance within the short-let accommodation sector, as authorities continue efforts to maintain quality and accountability across Malta’s tourism industry.
