Nine years ago, on 16 October 2017, investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bomb explosion near her home in Bidnija.

Aged 53, Caruana Galizia was known for her investigative reporting on corruption, political affairs and alleged financial wrongdoing in Malta.

Her assassination sent shockwaves across Malta and attracted international attention, marking one of the darkest moments in the country’s recent history.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola took to social media to honour the anniversary and restate her call for justice, saying “Justice delayed must never become justice denied.”

Nine years since her death, Caruana Galizia’s assassination remains a defining moment in Malta’s recent history.
