Today Is Officially The Last Day Of Summer In Malta

It’s official: summer is coming to an end.

Tuesday 22nd September marks the final full day of astronomical summer in Malta, with autumn officially beginning in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The autumn equinox takes place at 2:05am Malta time on 23rd September, marking the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator and the beginning of astronomical autumn across the Northern Hemisphere.

From here, Malta’s days will continue getting shorter and the nights longer as we move towards winter.

And while temperatures might still feel very much like summer, with beach days continuing well into September and beyond, astronomically speaking, summer officially ends tonight.

One small technicality: meteorological summer already ended on 31st August, as meteorologists divide the seasons into three-month blocks. The astronomical seasons, however, are based on the equinoxes and solstices.

So if you needed an excuse for one last swim, sunset drink or ice cream by the sea…
