Today Is International Nurses’ Day!
International

International Nurses’ Day is an opportunity to recognise the dedication, compassion and professionalism shown by nurses every single day.

Across hospitals, clinics, care homes and communities, nurses play a vital role in supporting patients and their families through some of the most challenging moments in life.

Their responsibilities go far beyond medical care. Nurses provide reassurance, monitor patients, administer treatment, support recovery and often offer emotional comfort during difficult times.

They work long hours in demanding environments, requiring both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills.

Celebrated annually on 12 May, International Nurses’ Day also marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, widely regarded as the founder of modern nursing.

Her work during the Crimean War helped transform healthcare standards and laid the foundations for professional nursing as we know it today.

The day serves as a reminder of the enormous contribution nurses make to healthcare systems around the world. Whether caring for patients in emergencies, supporting recovery, or assisting families through uncertainty, nurses remain at the heart of compassionate care.

International Nurses’ Day is a chance to thank nurses everywhere for their commitment, resilience and invaluable service to society.
