Today Is Global Champagne Day

Today is Global Champagne Day, AND a Friday! It’s as if it wants us to be celebrating!
While many people mark life's biggest moments by popping open a bottle, how did champagne became the ultimate drink for celebrations?
Although sparkling wines had existed for centuries, champagne's journey to global fame began in France's Champagne region during the 17th century.
Advances in winemaking helped producers refine the distinctive sparkling style that would eventually become synonymous with luxury and special occasions.
Champagne's reputation grew rapidly among European royalty and aristocracy, with French kings serving it at lavish banquets and celebrations. Its association with prestige soon spread beyond the royal courts.
By the 19th century, improved production methods and stronger glass bottles allowed champagne to be exported around the world.
Over time, traditions such as spraying champagne after sporting victories and raising a toast at weddings, birthdays, graduations and New Year's Eve celebrations became staple.
Even the familiar sound of a cork popping has become a universal signal that something worth celebrating has happened.
Global Champagne Day itself was established in 2009 by wine educator and blogger Chris Oggenfuss to honour the iconic sparkling wine.
So here’s your excuse to pop open a bottle!
