The Labour Party has criticised Opposition Leader Alex Borg following his decision to retain his Gozo parliamentary seat, arguing that the move breaches the Nationalist Party’s own statute.

In a statement issued on Sunday, PL questioned Borg’s credibility as a leader, saying that “if he does not even respect the rules within his own party, one can only imagine how likely he is to keep his word with the Maltese people from the Opposition benches, let alone from Government.”

The party accused Borg of putting “his own convenience first” and said his decision demonstrated an irresponsible approach to leadership.

PL also cited comments made by former PN leader Adrian Delia, who reportedly described it as a “no-brainer” that, according to the party statute, Borg should have relinquished his seat in the 13th District.

The Labour Party argued that if Borg does not respect the rules of his own party, there are concerns about whether he would honour commitments made to the Maltese public.

The statement concluded by saying that Borg’s “true colours have been revealed.”
