Tired Of Beach Days? Here’s What To Do This Public Holiday

Another public holiday, another automatic trip to the beach?

If you’re officially over sandy towels, packed bays and fighting for a parking spot, there are actually plenty of other ways to spend Victory Day in Malta today.

For something properly Maltese, head to the Grand Harbour for the traditional Victory Day Regatta, which kicks off at 11am and brings one of Malta’s most iconic sporting traditions back to the harbour.

You can also make your way to Fort St Angelo, which is marking Victory Day with a special programme from 9am to 7pm.

The day includes Mass, commemorations and historical re-enactments, while the fort also happens to be one of the best spots to catch the Regatta from above.

If history isn’t really your thing, go full festa mode.

Celebrations for the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady, better known as Il-Bambina, are taking place in Mellieħa, Naxxar and Senglea, while Xagħra is marking the feast over in Gozo.

Or just keep things simple.

Go for an unnecessarily long brunch, take a slow walk around Valletta or Mdina, catch a film, head over to Gozo, explore somewhere you’ve never properly visited, or finally try that restaurant that’s been sitting in your saved posts for the last six months.

Because as much as we love Malta’s beaches, not every public holiday needs to end with a sunburn and half of Għadira inside your car.
