In a video that racked up 46.5K views, the creator explains that the closest genetic relatives are West Sicilians, followed by Ashkenazi Jews and East Sicilians.
He explains that it all comes down to Malta’s geographical location in the central Mediterranean, with the various colonies and powers that took over the island leaving their mark.
