According to the weather report by Malta International Airport, Thundery showers will affect parts of the islands, with occasional heavy bursts of rain and gusty winds.

Temperatures will feel mild for this time of year, hovering around 16°C during the day, but those heading out for evening celebrations are advised to keep an umbrella close at hand and remain cautious during any sudden downpours.

Photos taken this morning show hail coating Malta’s ground, along with some flooding.

Conditions are set to calm down on New Year’s Day, although skies will remain mainly cloudy.

Temperatures will dip slightly, with a daytime high of around 15°C, offering a quieter and more settled start to 2026.

From Friday onwards, the weather takes a more positive turn. Friday will be windy and partly cloudy, with temperatures rising to around 17°C.

Saturday is expected to be windy but largely sunny, while Sunday will see fair conditions with more sunshine and milder temperatures reaching up to 19°C.
