The government has announced that three new ferry routes will be introduced in Malta next year, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana revealed in the 2026 Budget.

The expanded network will include a route from Sliema to Buġibba, continuing on to Gozo, as well as a service linking Marsaskala to Valletta.

“Through this initiative, we will be fulfilling our promise to provide a maritime transport service connecting the South of Malta to Gozo, ahead of schedule,” Caruana said.

“In Gozo alone, next year we will be doubling connectivity between Malta and Gozo, with the new service from Sliema and Buġibba complementing the existing routes from Valletta and Ċirkewwa.”

Transport Minister Chris Bonett said, ‘Mass transport cannot be just talk about trams or metros; it is about how we provide people with different and more efficient options to reach their destinations faster than by car. The ferry line will be a key component of the future transport system.’
