Three New Circular Tallinja Bus Routes Introduced

The Ministry for Sustainable Mobility, together with Transport Malta and Malta Public Transport, has announced the introduction of three new circular Tallinja bus routes serving Sliema, Qormi and Żejtun.

The services, which began operating on 8 September, run every 30 minutes from early morning until late at night as part of efforts to improve accessibility and strengthen public transport across local communities.

The new routes expand on similar circular services introduced in recent months in Buġibba, Paola, Mosta and Ta' Qali, and Marsaskala.

Route 410 serves Sliema, providing improved transport within one of Malta's busiest commercial and tourism centres, which is also connected by ferry to Valletta, Buġibba and Gozo.

Route 409 operates in Qormi, linking residents to key commercial areas and the nearby Park and Ride facility.

Meanwhile, Route 407 serves Żejtun, making it easier for residents, particularly older people living on the outskirts of the town, to reach the centre and access public services.

Minister for Sustainable Mobility Chris Bonett said the initiative forms part of the Malta in Motion strategy and represents another step towards the introduction of the redesigned Tallinja network planned for 2030.

He added that further expansion is already planned, with three additional circular routes expected during the first half of 2027 to serve Rabat, Pembroke, Swieqi and the Cottonera area.

Transport Malta Chief Executive Leonid McKay said the new services respond to growing demand by improving connectivity and bringing public transport closer to residents while supporting cleaner mobility through greater investment in sustainable transport.

Malta Public Transport General Manager Konrad Pule added that the routes will operate using electric buses and complement ongoing investment in the company's fleet, public transport electrification in Gozo and the continued development of its workforce.
