The Nationalist Party ended its Independence Day celebrations with a mass meeting at Pjazza Tritoni, where leader Alex Borġ delivered his first speech at such an event since taking over the party’s leadership.

Borġ said his role is to offer a new direction, pledging to attract back those who distanced themselves from PN and even those who had never supported it in the first place. He stressed the importance of politics of persuasion to broaden the party’s appeal.

The PN leader also spoke about his priorities for the months ahead, which include revising local plans to promote sustainable development, introducing a skyline policy including for Gozo, something which to this day the Government has not done., and pressing for environmental protection to be enshrined in the Constitution. He called for a fresh planning reform, criticising the government’s recent proposals as insufficient.

Borg acknowledged the challenges faced by the party in recent years but described the current moment as one of renewal. He thanked Adrian Delia and others who ran his campaign, saying Delia would remain a pillar within the Nationalist Party.

Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione and Secretary General Charles Bonello also addressed the crowd, both noting the sense of momentum within the party.
