Thousands Attend Festa Ikel Malti 2026 Celebrating Local Produce

Thousands of visitors gathered at Pitkalija, Ta’ Qali, for this year’s edition of Festa Ikel Malti, an event organised by the Malta Food Agency on Sunday, 11 October 2026, celebrating local produce and the people behind Malta’s food sector.
The event has become a popular annual occasion for Maltese and Gozitan families, bringing together producers, consumers and organisations in a celebration of traditional flavours, quality products and local craftsmanship.
This year’s edition was the largest so far, featuring more than 50 food producers and organisations, including participants from the Farmers’ Market. Visitors had the chance to explore a wide range of local products, speak directly with producers and learn more about the dedication and work involved in producing Maltese food.
Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a programme featuring live cooking demonstrations, traditional food, entertainment and activities for children, creating a family-friendly atmosphere focused on local culture and food heritage.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply Anton Refalo said that events such as Festa Ikel Malti help strengthen the connection between producers and consumers, while encouraging greater appreciation for local products.
“The success of Festa Ikel Malti shows how much the Maltese and Gozitan people appreciate local produce and the work of those who create it. Behind every product there is the work, sacrifice and dedication of our farmers, fishermen and producers,” Minister Refalo said.
Malta Food Agency Chief Executive Officer Brian Vella and Chief Business Development Officer Justin John Camilleri highlighted the importance of the event as a platform to promote local producers, increase visibility for Maltese products and create new opportunities for the sector.
Festa Ikel Malti forms part of the Malta Food Agency’s ongoing efforts to support Maltese and Gozitan producers while celebrating the country’s food traditions and identity.
