Schools across Malta and Gozo will once again take part in the annual Jum Sportiv tal-Iskejjel on Wednesday, 15 October.

Organised by SportMalta, the nationwide event will see thousands of students and educators unite in a series of sporting activities aimed at promoting physical activity and healthier lifestyles.

Speaking at the launch held at the Cottonera Sports Complex, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, stressed the importance of encouraging children to remain active throughout the year.

“Through SportMalta, we are taking several initiatives to encourage our children from a young age to participate in sport and physical activity,” he said.

As recognition of their participation in last year’s edition, 40 schools were awarded new sports equipment during the event.

The Stella Maris College Secondary School was also presented with the #BeActive School 2024 trophy for its outstanding commitment to organising sports activities.

Minister Grima added that the ministry continues to invest in school sports facilities, with projects to rehabilitate playing grounds and integrate outdoor activity spaces in new and modernised schools.

These initiatives form part of a broader strategy to combat childhood obesity and strengthen Malta’s sporting culture.

Applications for schools wishing to participate in this year’s National Sports Day are now open.
