This Sunday In Żabbar: Children Learn 112 The Fun Way!

Every year, countries across Europe mark European 112 Day, an initiative introduced by the European Union to promote awareness of the emergency number 112 and its correct use.
Available free of charge in all EU member states, 112 connects callers directly to the police, fire brigade or ambulance services. The day also serves as a reminder of the vital and often life saving work carried out by emergency service personnel across the continent.
In Malta, European 112 Day is being commemorated through a family focused event taking place on Sunday 8 February.
The Ministry for Home Affairs is organising Ġurnata 112, an initiative aimed especially at children, combining fun activities with education and awareness on when and how to use the emergency number responsibly.
This is particularly important as thousands of calls made every year should be directed elsewhere or are hoaxes, placing unnecessary strain on emergency services.

The event will be held at St Clement’s Park in Żabbar and will run from 10.00 in the morning until 2.00 in the afternoon, offering five hours of activities for the whole family.
Children will have the opportunity to meet members of the disciplined forces, take part in interactive experiences and learn more about the role of everyday heroes who respond to emergencies.
Set in a safe and pleasant environment, the park provides the ideal setting for an engaging and enjoyable morning.
Ġurnata 112 promises to be an experience that is fun, educational and inspiring, making it the place to be for families next Sunday morning.
