"This Heartbreaking Incident Underscores A Systemic Failure," Says Malta Chamber Of Geologists

The Malta Chamber of Geologists have responded to this weekend’s incident where a Chinese tourist died following a rock collapse in Comino.

They emphasised that Malta needs a National Geological Service, stating that this death was “the cost of inaction.”

“Yesterday's collapse of a natural arch in Comino, which tragically claimed the life of a tourist, serves as a stark and devastating reminder of Malta’s ongoing unpreparedness for geological hazards,” the Chamber stated.

“This heartbreaking incident underscores a systemic failure to manage our islands' geological processes and features,” they explained.

The Malta Chamber of Geologists claimed that they’ve “consistently appealed to the government to establish a National Geological Service.”

“Unfortunately, our expert advice, warnings, and structured proposals continue to be ignored by the current administration,” they stated.

The Chamber questioned how many more deaths need to happen before action is taken.
