Things That Just Taste Better In Summer

Now that summer is officially over, there are a few Maltese classics we’re already going to miss enjoying in peak summer mode.
Yes, you can technically have all of these in winter too.
But somehow, under the Maltese sun, after the beach or during a long summer evening, they just hit different.
Ċisk 🍺
A cold Cisk after a day at the beach? Different league. Bonus points if there’s condensation running down the bottle and you’re still covered in salt.
Tuna Ftira 🥪
A proper tuna ftira just feels made for summer. Tuna, tomatoes, olives, capers, gbejna, kunserva, whatever your exact combo is, it somehow tastes better by the sea.
Pink Sausages 🌭
You can cook them all year round, but put them on a barbecue during a Maltese summer evening and suddenly they become essential.
Bigilla 🫘
Bigilla with galletti is good any time of year. Bigilla with galletti, a cold drink and a table full of people on a warm summer night? Different story.
Ħobz Biż-Żejt 🍅
Simple, messy and unbeatable in summer. Especially when it’s packed properly and eaten somewhere near the sea.
Of course, none of these are actually exclusive to summer.
You can drink a Cisk in January, make a tuna ftira in February and eat bigilla whenever you want.
But in summer? They just taste better.
