Things Maltese People Do The Second The First Rain Hits

You know summer is officially on its way out in Malta when the first proper rain arrives — and suddenly the entire country forgets it was 30°C about five minutes ago.

1. The Hoodies Come Out Immediately

One drop of rain and somehow people are already walking around in hoodies, jackets and long trousers. It’s still warm outside, but mentally, winter has begun.

2. Everyone Posts The Rain On Their Story

Because apparently nobody else has windows. Expect videos of rain hitting balconies, thunder clips and at least one “finally 😍” caption.

3. The Roads Become… Interesting

Rain + Maltese roads = everyone suddenly remembering that driving on wet roads requires a completely different skill set.

4. Sunday Lunch Suddenly Hits Different

Forget the beach club. The second it gets grey outside, all you want is a long Sunday lunch, something warm and absolutely no plans afterwards.

5. We Start Craving Hot Drinks Again

Coffee technically never disappeared, but rainy weather gives us permission to order the unnecessarily large cappuccino we’ve been avoiding all summer.

6. Everyone Goes For A Drive To ‘See The Weather’

Instead of staying home because it’s raining, Maltese people get into their cars and drive around specifically to look at the rain.

Bonus points for heading towards the coast to “see how rough the sea is.”

7. Someone Will Say: “Winter Is Here”

It is not. There will probably be another scorching day very soon. But for today, let us enjoy it.

8. And Obviously…We Complain About The Rain After Spending Three Months Asking For It
