These Are The 10 Most Popular Tourist Areas In Malta, According To Tourism Minister
Local

From Valletta and Mdina to Marsaxlokk and Dingli, Malta's Tourism Minister has revealed some of the country's most popular locations among tourists.

In response to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Alex Perici Calascione, Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela named the following locations as the most visited localities in 2025 and the first six months of 2026:

  1. Valletta
  2. Mdina and Rabat
  3. Sliema
  4. Marsaxlokk
  5. St Paul’s Bay, Buġibba and Qawra
  6. The Three Cities (Cottonera)
  7. St Julian’s
  8. Mellieħa
  9. Mosta
  10. Dingli

The destinations showcase Malta’s diverse appeal, from historic cities and traditional villages to popular seaside resorts.

However, the Minister did not provide visitor numbers for each locality or explain the methodology used to compile the list. The destinations were also not presented in a confirmed ranking, leaving it unclear which attracted the most tourists during the periods concerned.

Separately, National Statistics Office figures for 2025 showed that St Julian’s had the highest tourism intensity relative to its resident population, followed by Valletta. However, tourism intensity measures something different from the number of visitors to a particular attraction or locality.

As Malta continues to attract millions of tourists, questions remain about how visitors are distributed across the islands and the impact on local communities.

Which Maltese locality do you think deserves more attention from tourists?
