There Were 241 Knee Replacement Surgeries In First 2 Months Of 2026

Responding to a parliamentary question, Minister for Health Jo Etienne Abela revealed that in the first two months of this year, there were 241 knee replacement surgeries.
84 of these were done at Mater Dei Hospital, 36 were done at Gozo General Hospital and 121 were outsourced.
In 2025, Mater Dei Hospital presided over 565 such surgeries, with Gozo General Hospital carrying out 175. Meanwhile, 677 were outsourced.
Between 2022 and 2026 (up until February of this year), there were a total of 2,177 knee replacement surgeries at Mater Dei Hospital.
Gozo General Hospital saw 504 such surgeries, whereas 843 were outsourced over this same period.
