There Can Be No Impunity For Daphne’s Murder, Says Ursula Von Der Leyen

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen paid tribute to the late Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in a speech at the EU Parliament.

‘There can be no impunity for Daphne’s murder’, said Leyen.

She dedicated the last few minutes of her speech, recalling how five years ago she visited Daphne’s memorial with her family.

She said that she remembers their hope that justice will be served, but it is instead disheartening that justice has not yet been done after her assassination.

‘Daphne’s legacy has inspired our Media Freedom Act. We passed legislation to protect journalists because they must be free to do their job safely. And we remain vigilant on this case and media freedom across the union with our rule of law reports.’

‘Daphne devoted her life to seeking the truth. And now the truth must prevail. There can be no impunity for Daphne’s murder.’
