There Are Over 7,600 ‘Holiday Furnished Apartments’ Around Malta

Responding to a question in parliament, Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs IAN BORG revealed that there are 7,616 Holiday Furnished Premises around Malta and Gozo.
These short let apartments have permits issued by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA).
St Julian’s and Sliema have the highest amount of such premises, at 885 and 873 respectively. St Paul’s Bay follows in third place with around 839.
Other localities with higher densities of HFPs include Valletta with 505, Mellieħa with 395, Marsaskala with 268, Gżira with 358, and Xagħra, Gozo with 224.
According to the MTA application description, ‘"Holiday premises" means any building, howsoever described, but not being a hotel, guest house, hostel or the ordinary residence of the owner or tenant thereof, as the case may be, in which accommodation, ancillary services, including self-catering services, and amenities are provided for tourists; and includes any number of such buildings which are grouped together.’
