Over recent months, the Public Works Department, in collaboration with the Żurrieq Parish, carried out extensive regeneration works at the Żurrieq Parish Centre, a place described by locals as of great importance to both the Parish and the residents of Żurrieq, serving as a communal space where people could spend their free time together.

The works undertaken by the Public Works Department included renovations to the façade of the Parish Centre.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia stated that the residents of Żurrieq had “been waiting a long time for this project to be completed so that the Centre could once again reopen for the enjoyment of the community. After several weeks of work by our Public Works employees, these works are now fully completed, allowing the Centre to reopen once again for the benefit of the people of Żurrieq.” Farrugia concluded by saying that this project brings the community together and that, from today, residents have another space where they can gather and enjoy the beauty that “we have created together.”

The Mayor of Żurrieq, Rita Grima, thanked Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia, saying that the building “has now been brought back to life. In the past, we used to come here to play and also attend spiritual activities, and we now hope it will continue to serve the same purpose and be used much more by the residents of Żurrieq, a place that fosters greater unity within the village.”

The Archpriest of the Parish, Dun Daniel Cardona, remarked that after many years during which the hall remained closed, “today we have reopened it following extensive works carried out by the Public Works Department under the leadership of Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia, as well as by the parish itself.” The Archpriest concluded by saying that he looks forward to the hall being actively used once more to bring the community together.

This collaborative project was primarily aimed at returning this space to the people in a more regenerated and improved state, so that it can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
