The Scouts And Guides For The Goals & Saving Our Blue Summer Campaign Conclude

The Ministry for Energy, the Environment and the Regeneration of the Grand Harbour marked the successful conclusion of the Scouts and Guides for the Goals initiative together with the closing event of this year’s Saving Our Blue summer campaign, highlighting the role of community participation in promoting sustainability.

The Scouts and Guides for the Goals initiative brought together Scout Groups and Girl Guide Units from across Malta and Gozo, with participants presenting projects they had developed over six months based on their assigned Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through community activities, educational experiences and an SDG-themed scavenger hunt, they explored how global sustainability goals can be applied through practical local action.

The event also marked the end of the eighth edition of the Saving Our Blue campaign, held at Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa. Throughout the year, the campaign raised awareness about marine litter, single-use plastics and the protection of Malta’s marine environment through school visits, public events and educational activities.

The closing event featured a number of entities and organisations within the Ministry’s remit, providing information and practical advice on sustainable living, marine conservation, biodiversity and the responsible use of resources. A beach soccer tournament organised in collaboration with the Malta Football Association and local football clubs also formed part of the programme, combining sport with environmental awareness.

Minister Miriam Dalli said the two initiatives demonstrate the importance of education, community engagement and personal responsibility in advancing sustainable development and protecting the environment. She added that empowering young people and increasing public awareness helps turn sustainability principles into practical action that benefits communities across Malta and Gozo.
