The Public Needs To Know What Happened With The Tanker Explosion, Says PN MP

In a post shared to social media, PN MP Darren Carabott explained what happened with the Russian tanker that exploded off Malta’s Search and Rescue Zone.
Carabott explained that he was at parliament when he was informed of the explosion that struck the MT ARCTIC METAGAZ.
The PN MP said that he signalled to the Minister for Home Affairs, Byron Camilleri, that he was informed and that he wanted to speak about the situation.
During the Prime Minister’s speech, the Minister took Carabott to the side to speak, later being joined by the Prime Minister and Opposition leader.
Alex Borg and Carabott were informed that an AFM rescue team was on site and that the vessel had entered Malta’s search and rescue zone due to the sea’s drift.
He called for an end to this misinformation campaign and making such situations a political issue, and that it is good that a conversation took place about the situation.
‘We need to understand how important Malta’s security is’, he added. He however posed a number of important questions he said need to be answered.
At what time did the explosion happen? At what time were the Armed Forces of Malta informed of the explosion and when the vessel entered the SAR zone due to the sea’s current.
‘Why did the Opposition need to inform the government of their knowledge of the explosion’, asked Carabott. Most importantly, he added, was the vessel under sanctions from the EU?
How close was the vessel to the SAR, especially if the vessel was indeed on the sanctions list? He said the Maltese public needs to know about these important questions that concern the security of the country.
