The Disciplined Forces Assist In Nearly 700 Cases

In a press conference by the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment, it was revealed that Malta’s Disciplined Forces have assisted in nearly 700 incidents between the 19th of January and midday today.
Malta’s Disciplined Forces have remained fully mobilised over the past few hours as the country continues to deal with the aftermath of extreme weather conditions, which were forecast and saw winds reach Force 9 over recent days.
Between the 19th of January and midday today, the Disciplined Forces responded to just under 700 incidents nationwide, almost a case every five minutes.
The Civil Protection Department handled 502 cases, including fallen trees, unstable billboards, electrical hazards, fires involving vehicles and waste, fuel spills, and other storm-related dangers.
The Malta Police Force assisted in 86 incidents, many involving people trapped in vehicles, cars swept away by floodwaters, and obstructions caused by debris, furniture, cables, construction material, balconies, and broken glass.
The Armed Forces of Malta supported land operations, carried out maritime rescues, and responded to additional cases at sea, while LESA attended 74 traffic collision incidents.
On Monday evening, the Government announced precautionary measures that were widely communicated and effectively followed.
As a result, despite widespread damage, no major or fatal incidents were recorded, and the emergency number 112 was used responsibly, reported Minister Byron Camilleri.
He thanked all frontline workers and expressed solidarity with affected families and businesses, stressing that assistance will continue.
Meanwhile, Civil Protection Director General Peter Paul Coleiro urged the public to avoid coastal areas, warning that the sea remains dangerously rough despite easing winds, and reminded residents to remain cautious as hazard-clearing operations continue.
