Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, responded to the recent video posted by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir showing harsh treatment towards detained activists.

The video showed activists kneeling with their hands tied behind their backs while Ben-Gvir waved an Israeli flag and declared: “We are the masters.”

The flotilla, involving more than 50 boats and approximately 430 activists from over 40 countries, aimed to highlight worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

Israeli naval forces intercepted the vessels in international waters west of Cyprus as part of Israel’s maritime blockade.

Ian Borg took to social media, calling the behaviour “deeply disturbing and unacceptable.”

“Malta adds its voice to the international condemnation of his actions, which were also denounced by his own colleagues in the Israeli government,” emphasised Borg.

He stated that such actions are “inconsistent with democratic norms and fundamental values of human dignity.”
