Malta is set to experience one of the coldest spells of the year this week, with Thursday night expected to feel particularly harsh.

A polar airmass moving into the Central Mediterranean from late Tuesday will keep daytime temperatures below 15°C, while strong northwesterly winds could push the wind chill down to around -1°C.

Forecasters warn of isolated showers, with the possibility of thundery bursts and graupel, especially in exposed areas. Coastal waters are expected to be rough as the Force 7 winds batter the islands.

The cold spell is set to ease by Good Friday evening, bringing fair weather just in time for Easter processions and celebrations, with isolated showers to hit briefly on Saturday.

Residents are urged to dress warmly and take precautions during outdoor activities over the next few days.
