The production reimagines Verdi’s comic masterpiece inside a vibrant 1960s television studio, complete with glowing ON AIR signs, studio cameras, and the colourful chaos of live broadcasting. Directed by Barbara Diana, the concept injects the opera with fast-paced humour and a modern visual flair.

Rising conductor Federico Tibone will lead the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, bringing sharp musical insight and a strong command of Verdi’s comic style.
Set and costume designer Stewart J. Charlesworth draws inspiration from the bold patterns, saturated lighting, and graphic design of the era, creating a striking backdrop that enhances the opera’s wit and lively character interactions.

This new Falstaff signals an evolution in Malta’s operatic landscape, emphasising international casting, contemporary theatricality, and a more outward-looking artistic approach.

Falstaff runs from 22 February to 1 March 2026 at Teatru Manoel, Valletta, promising a vibrant celebration of comedy, mischief, and Verdi’s enduring genius.
