Teamsport And Diadora Launch Landmark Athlete Sponsorship Programme In Malta

What took place a few months ago at the Diadora headquarters in Treviso, Italy, marked a significant milestone for Maltese sport.

Teamsport management, together with ten carefully selected athletes, were invited to experience the heart of the iconic Italian sportswear brand in an unforgettable visit that combined innovation, heritage, performance, and inspiration.

From exclusive access to Diadora’s factory and museum to personalised shoe testing and performance assessments, the experience offered the athletes a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s most respected sporting brands.

Adding even greater prestige to the occasion, the delegation was personally guided through the Diadora headquarters by Gelindo Bordin, Olympic gold medallist and one of Italy’s most celebrated distance runners.

His insights, experience, and passion for the sport made the visit even more memorable for everyone involved.

The initiative forms part of a groundbreaking sponsorship programme between Teamsport and Diadora, which sees ten Maltese athletes supported over the course of an entire year.

The project is believed to be the first of its kind in Malta; a global sportswear brand making a substantial long-term investment in local athletic talent across multiple disciplines.

The selected athletes represent a broad spectrum of the local sporting scene, ranging from short-distance runners and endurance athletes to road runners, Hyrox competitors, and athletics specialists.

The group includes both emerging young talents and experienced competitors who have consistently delivered strong performances locally and internationally. Each athlete was carefully chosen based on commitment, discipline, results, and potential.

Roderick Cilia recently delivered one of the standout performances of his career at the Malta Marathon, where he finished first Maltese overall and improved his marathon personal best to an impressive 2:35:46. Earlier in the season, he also registered a strong performance at the Athens Half Marathon, placing 34th overall among thousands of participants.

Christian Micallef has also continued to impress on the local athletics scene, most notably with victory at the highly competitive Maqluba 10K Race, where he led from start to finish in commanding fashion.

Joseph Borg has meanwhile continued to establish himself as one of the athletes contributing to Malta’s growing endurance and competitive running community, consistently delivering strong performances and demonstrating remarkable dedication to training and competition, recently placing 1st at Run Gozo’s 10k race.
