The signing ceremony, held at the MTA offices, was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg. The agreement was signed by MTA CEO Carlo Micallef, Malta Tourism Observatory Managing Director Leslie Vella, and t-Forum’s Professor Jafar Jafari, a globally recognised pioneer in tourism studies, in the presence of MTA Chairman Charles Mangion.

Under this strategic collaboration, t-Forum Malta will continue its mission to transfer academic knowledge to tourism destinations and businesses, drawing on university expertise while identifying key industry insights.

The organisation will also launch a periodical, ‘The Bridge’, summarising top academic journal articles for tourism decision-makers worldwide.

Following the signing, Deputy Prime Minister Borg and Professor Jafari inaugurated the Jafar Jafari Library at the Malta Tourism Observatory. The library features over 1,000 publications from Professor Jafari’s personal collection, donated earlier this year, providing a valuable resource for academics, students, and tourism professionals in Malta and beyond.

Deputy Prime Minister Borg expressed his support for the initiative, noting,“Once again, our country continues to punch above its weight, taking leading roles in international organisations and collaborations.”

Professor Jafari thanked Malta for welcoming t-Forum and emphasised the long-term impact this partnership will have on knowledge dissemination in the international tourism community.

MTA CEO Carlo Micallef said, “It is with pride that the Malta Tourism Authority supports the Malta Tourism Observatory in hosting t-Forum Malta. This agreement adds another important dimension to the Authority’s work.”
