SWIEQI RECORDS FIRST NIGHT WITHOUT REPORTS IN TWO MONTHS

Swieqi residents have experienced their first night in two months without any reported cases of anti-social behaviour, according to Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield.
Taking to social media, Bedingfield described the development as encouraging, while stressing that continued effort will be needed to ensure the progress is maintained. The Minister thanked the community police, the Malta Police Force, and all those involved in addressing the issues affecting the locality.
The announcement came after Swieqi resident David Fenech shared a post in a local Facebook group, praising the work carried out by community police officers, police officials, and several Malta Tourism Authority officers over recent days.
Fenech said that their combined efforts resulted in a first positive outcome, with no reports of anti-social behaviour being received overnight for the first time in two months.
The resident highlighted that Swieqi has faced ongoing challenges in recent times, including issues linked to some tourists and certain short-let operators. He claimed that some operators had been found breaching regulations, including exceeding registered capacity and failing to meet required standards.
While acknowledging that the situation is not yet fully resolved, Fenech said that action is being taken and that the town is moving in the right direction after years of concerns raised by residents, the local council, and pressure groups.
He also called for stronger fines and better documentation of operators who fail to comply with regulations, allowing authorities and residents to have greater awareness of repeat offenders.
The latest development marks a positive step for Swieqi residents, who have long called for greater enforcement against disturbances affecting the community.
